Every Monday, I share my reading notes. Those are the articles, blog posts, podcast episodes, and books that catch my interest during the week and that I found interesting. It's a mix of the actuality and what I consumed.

• Creating Azure Functions with Function Monkey–First Look (Jason Roberts) - A nice quick tutorial that explains how to create a function with Monkey.

• Creating subdomains to Azure DNS from ASP.NET Core (Gunnar Peipman) - A pretty cool tutorial that shows how to do the DNS config by code.

• How serverless beats servers - A geek with a hat (Swizec Teller) - Very nice post that demonstrates how a serverless pair with static websites are great.

• How to Restrict Network Access to Azure Key Vault Using Firewalls & vNets (Mike Racine) - Excellent post and video.Very clear and it helps to understand how Keyvault is good for us.

Programming

• Hosting your own NuGet Server and Feed for build artifacts with BaGet (Scott Hanselman) - Woooo. I didn't know so many options were available. Once more great post that opens to so many scenarios.

• Visual Studio Code January 2020 (VSCode Team) - How this team manages to pack so many goodies in every new version is a mystery. Wonderful.

Podcasts

• Influencer Marketing EXPLAINED (by an influencer) (That Creative Life) - What a great episode! She can't barely contain herself... that's how Sara is passionate and honest! I love the show, great episode!

• Colin O'Brady - First to Ever Cross Antarctica COMPLETELY Unassisted (That Creative Life) - I have been waiting for someone to write a book like that forever! Thank you to let me discover Colin O'Brady. I already order the book... looking forward to reading it. Life IS the ultimate adventure, a mandatory listening for all of us!

• #25: Shayne Boyer - Social Coder (The Solo Coder Podcast) - Once again a very nice episode. It was wonderful to discover my colleague to this interview. Well done.

• Making Gatsby easy to understand with Laurie Barth (Software Engineering Unlocked) - That how you do an interview! Great conversation, Lauria is fantastic. I didn't know her but now I'm following, and waiting for the next "question".

• Azure Cloud Shell + zsh, oh-my-zsh, tmux, and badass terminal! (Jessica Deen) - Cool walkthrough that explains all to get a nice looking cloud shell.

• Updating the my blog from AppService to Containers...finally (Shayne Boyer) - Awesome walkthrough. As an ex-user of Ghost on Azure I understand the trouble. Containers and a database as service are perfect for this situation.

Programming

• CLI vs GitKraken Git GUI Speed Test (Jesus Murillo) - I love GitKraken, I still use the CLI and the integrated git in VSCode, but to really see things... It's the best, and wow it looks cool.

• ASP.Net Core 3 – Dependency Injection (Michał Białecki) - A nice tutorial that explains an important concept, and shows how to implement it.

• Create fake user for ASP.NET Core integration tests (Gunnar Peipman) - An awesome tutorial that explains how to build a very useful utility...a fake user.

• Yori - The quiet little CMD replacement that you need to install NOW (Scott Hanselman) - I love it. I didn't even finish reading this post and one thing bringing another I was streaming live installing and playing with Yori.

Podcasts

• Episode 49 - Blazor, .Net Core 3.1 and spelling reforms with Daniel Roth (Coding After Work Podcast) - Great episode with the very energetic Daniel. A ton of information and thank you for all the URLs in the notes.

• SPI 404: The 5 Dysfunctions of a Team with Patrick Lencioni (The Smart Passive Income) - I read The Five Dysfunctions of a Team a few years ago and loved it. It was really interesting to listen to the author talking sharing all that wisdom. A must! (book and episode).

• Entity Framework Core 3 with Julie Lerman (.NET Rocks!) - What a great episode with Entity framework goddess in person. As I'm planning to use EF in a new project, this refresh was awesome!

• #23: John Sonmez - Becoming a Finisher, Part 1 (The Solo Coder Podcast) - I know, read and follow Simpler Programmer. It was so great to heard all the work that was put in to arrive to the current status. So many of us think it's a night success... Looking forward to listening to part 2.

• How to Create Great Tech Demos and Presentations (Thomas Maurer) - Awesome list of tips to give the best presentation possible.

• SSL certificates management using Lets Encrypt, Azure Automation and Web Apps (Dominique St-Amand ) - Security, of course. Automatically ... I'm in! This post explains how to automate your renewing process.
• Serverless Deployment Best Practices (Fernando Medina Corey) - A nice post that shows some of the best practices for serverless and how AWS implements them.

Programming

• How partners like GitKraken use GitHub Actions (Marc Campbell) - So cool to see what people are doing with the GitHub Actions.
• How to make ASP.NET Core compile modified views (Gunnar Peipman) - Nice update of Asp.net core... Following the best practices
• How to make a pretty prompt in Windows Terminal with Powerline, Nerd Fonts, Cascadia Code, WSL, and oh-my-posh (Scott Hanselman) - It's great to have a step by step on how to install it. Even if the documentation is well done on Github, it could be confusing to set everything up altogether.
• Why jQuery is Obsolete and Time to Stop Using It (Chris Love) - Great post. I was a big user of jQuery, and these days I do less front end stuff, so it is nice to see how things have evolved and to understand the impact jQuery had.
• Getting Started with Git (Sarah Lean) - Great post that explains the basic functionalities of Git.

• Video Interview: Between Two Nerds ( Steve Carroll & Scott Hanselman) - Really cool and interesting video interview.

• Is JavaScript really getting too complex? - A geek with a hat (Swizec Teller) - Very inspiring post about the evolution of computer science and a parallel with JavaScript.

• Up your Git game and clean up your history (Christopher Kade) - A cool little tutorial that clarifies some less frequent Git commands.

• Install WSL 2 on Windows 10 (Thomas Maurer) - Awesome tutorial. If like me you didn't want to wait until the next Windows release or take the time to compile and debug a deployment....this tutorial is for us!

• Introduction to Kubernetes Security (Anita) - A nice post that details some security options that we have.

• Microsoft Azure For Spoiled People 3: Migrate A Database (Jen Looper) - Nice post that explains the steps to migrate a database to Azure storage table.

Miscellaneous

• 3 Mindfulness Rituals That Will Make You Happy - Barking Up The Wrong Tree (Eric Barker) - An interesting article about doing peace with yourself in the present.

• Creating a Chatbot with Microsoft Azure QnA Maker and Alexa (James Ashley) - This post explains all the steps about a pretty cool project.
• How to Schedule Cosmos DB Data Processing With Azure Functions (Jason Roberts) - Cool demo with a time trigger (scheduled) Azure function.

Programming

• Views, Partial Views, and Layouts in ASP.NET Core MVC (Code Maze) - Very simple, but yet complete Asp.Net MVC tutorial. Perfect place to get started.
• Getting Started with Docker in Visual Studio 2019 (Wael Kdouh) - This is a nice tutorial to get started with Containers.
• Visual Studio Code Remote Development over SSH to a Raspberry Pi is butter (Scott Hanselman) - VS Code is simplifying the life of all IoT developers. So cool.

• How Azure Resource Graph is gonna change the way you search and script (Stephane Lapointe) - Whaat?! 15x faster! If you are not using Azure graph yet... This post is for you. If you do use graph, still read that you may learn a few tricks. In short, it's a mandatory read for anyone using Azure.

• Azure Blueprints: ISO27001 Shared Services (Eric Leonard) - This excellent second post of a series goes dipper and shares details about one specific blueprint template. And explains some pitfall to avoid.
• Azure Blueprints: Intro (Eric Leonard) - If you don't know Blueprint this post is an excellent first contact.
• Connecting to Azure Redis Cache with Docker (Dominique St-Amand) - Great tutorial that explains every step to build a safe environment leveraging Docker.
• Different Ways to Parse Http Request Data in Http-triggered Azure Functions ( Jason Roberts ) - How many ways do you think we can get our values from inside an Azure Function? This post passes them all in a review.

Programming

• Getting Started with .NET Core and Docker and the Microsoft Container Registry (Scott Hanselman) - Nice post that shows a few examples of how containers could be used with .Net Core at different stages of your application development.
• Building a Visual Studio Code Extension (Brian Clark) - Great post that explains in details the different type of extension and how to build them.
• Securing ASP.NET Core in Docker (Muhammad Rehan Saeed) - A nice little trick to get more secure with our containers.

• Continuous database deployments with Azure DevOps (John Miner) - This nice tutorial explains what's in Azure DevOps and how to use it to maintain a database with it. Very complete article.

• How to use Windows 10's built-in OpenSSH to automatically SSH into a remote Linux machine (Scott Hanselman) - Nice post that explains how to configure what we already have, instead of installing yet another tool.
• Remote debugging with VS Code on Windows to a Raspberry Pi using .NET Core on ARM (Scott Hanselman) - A great example of the mojo: if you do a thing twice... automate it.
• Security bugs are fundamentally different than quality bugs (Tanya Janca) - This is a nice post that examines, dissects the difference between QA and security tests.

• MongoDB on Windows in Minutes with Docker (Jeremy Likness) - A great quick tutorial to install a mongodb in a container in 2 minutes.

• Simplicity is Key - Exploring Minimal Web Design (Cameron Chapman) - A very inspiring post that shows us many good designs.
• The 7 Habits of Highly Effective IT Leaders (JD Meier) - Interesting post. It covers pretty well all the aspect of efficient IT people. Easy to identify hard to master.
• What's the Best Video Stabilization Software? Premiere, After Effects, Resolve Reviewed (Lewis McGregor) - Very detailed analysis of the stabilization feature.

Fast Focus: A Quick-Start Guide To Mastering Your Attention, Ignoring Distractions, And Getting More Done In Less Time! (Damon Zahariades) - Great book well organized. Simple strike to the point. It is divided into three parts: understanding focus, creating an environment for focus, and employing tactics to focus. It lists the top 10 obstacles to staying focused and gives you a great idea on how to get start your journey.

• Sandbox Azure pour tout le monde (Wilfried Woivré) - A nice French post that describes a tool to build sandbox resources and that offer nice options about security and availability of those resources.

• What’s New for WSL in the Windows 10 October 2018 Update (Tara Raj) - Great updates a lot of them were asked for a long time...
• Your Web App Secrets in ASP .NET Core (Shahed C) - Great tutorial that explains how to manage our secrets until we deploy.

Books

The First 20 Hours: How to Learn Anything...Fast (Josh Kaufman) - That was a very interesting book. I devoured it much faster than I thought! As I was reading it, I was thinking... hey as a developer/programmer I already do a lot of those things... Things change so fast, technology changes... And a few pages later, the author was saying the same thing. :) It looks like we can adapt to many deferent situations. The author share with us a few journeys as he was learning new stuff. While I may not be interested to learn how to play to Go, I found all part of the book very interesting as those journeys a pact with tons of information.

• How to get HTTPS working on your local development environment in 5 minutes (Daksh Shah) - Tired to get the unsecured notification when working locally? This tutorial will explain all the steps to fix that.
• Introduction to Vue.js with a Single Page Application (SPA) in Visual Studio - Simple Talk (Damon Armstrong) - Very complete and detailed article, the perfect one to get started with vue.js
• Update on .NET Core 3.0 and .NET Framework 4.8 (Scott H) - Great update and a glimpse of the Frameworks roadmap.

• Fun with SQL Server Containers (Donovan Brown) - Interesting post. Perfect to get ready in 5 minutes.

• Introducing Azure DevOps (null) - VSTS just got a major update... It's now on called azure DevOps and is packed with tons of great features. Awesome!

• A complete containerized .NET Core Application microservice that is as small as possible (Scott Hanselman) - A great new part in the optimization journey of Scott and his Apps.
• Introducing Microsoft Learn (Microsoft Developer) - Nice short video that explains why the new Learn portal will be so great.
• NLog vs log4net vs Serilog: Compare .NET Logging Frameworks (Simon Timms) - Useful post that reviews three popular logging framework.
• Scripts to remove old .NET Core SDKs (Scott Hanselman) - Neet script! Thanks, Scott.

• Attitude Matters (When It Comes To Winning Users Over)! (Gaurav) - Interesting post that once again shows that communication is A great in both ways.
• When and Why Chatbots - The Wit and Ramblings of David Giard (David Giard) - Yes chatbot, are great... But not to all situation, learn more in the post why.
• Windows Virtual Desktop (null) - This week Microsoft announced what looks like a very simple way to get powerful environments without all the trouble to maintain them. More to come.

• dotnet new templates for serverless functions (Shayne Boyer) - This post explains how to add new templates for our .Net Core and shows how to build Azure function.

• Our Integration Product Roadmap (Jon Fancey) - VNext, the next version of BizTalk, is making its way.

• One click deploy for MakeCode and the amazing AdaFruit Circuit Playground Express (Scott Hanselman) - The circuit Express of Adafruits was already so easy to get started... Now with this little tweak... Wow!

• Data Virtualization Is Absolutely Critical. Here’s Why… - This is an interesting post that introduces the data virtualization concept.
• Importing Data from AWS DynamoDB into SQL Server 2017 (Derek Colley) - A very nice tutorial that explains the migration step by step.

Miscellaneous

• Connecting Azure AD and Azure AD B2C to IdentityServer4 (Dominique St-Amand) - Nice post that shares some gotchas and workarounds.
• Why No HTTPS? Questions Answered, New Data, Path Forward (Troy Hunt) - Incredible source of information.

• Quickly create VSTS Work Items for Application Insights Telemetry from Visual Studio (Abhijit Jana) - Can it be more DevOps than that? I don't think so.

• 7 best practices for building containers (Google) - This post helps us to improve our skill with containers. It also shares a lot of excellent more detailed references.
• How Postman Can Improve Your API Documentation (Abhinav Asthana) - With openAPI and Postman, our Apis will definitely be easier to consume.
• Using Elasticsearch with ASP.NET Core and Docker (Miroslav Popovic ARCHIVE TAGS) - Interesting post. I like how docker was used in this case.

• How to Lead When You’re Feeling Afraid (Peter Bregman) - A really interesting post that will help us, for sure, because we all leave this kind of situation one day or the other.
• Defeating Electron (Felix Rieseberg) - Pretty good is the chance that you are (just like me) using an application builds on top of electron. This post explains a little about what's it happening under the hood.
• Here's Why Your Static Website Needs HTTPS (Troy Hunt) - Definitely a post to read.
• How to Write a Catchy Hook and Title for Your Blog - This post can definitely help us getting inspired.

• Static website hosting for Azure Storage now in public preview (Michael Hauss) - Great! Have been waiting for this feature for so long!

• Ghost in A shell - Part I : localhost (Manu) - A pretty cool little tutorial explains how to use different tools together.
• Detecting that a .NET Core app is running in a Docker Container and SkippableFacts in XUnit (Scott Hanselman) - Really cool way to continue doing unit tests within Docker containers.
• Injecting services to ASP.NET Core controller actions (Gunnar Peipman) - Nice tutorial, step by step, very clear.
• Top Visual Studio Code Extensions from Individual Contributors -- Visual Studio Magazine ( David Ramel) - Congrats to these badass developers.
• Working with T4 templates in Visual Studio - The Wit and Ramblings of David Giard (David Giard) - T4 are a really powerful tool. I used them a while back to avoid magic strings... Nice post to get started.

• .NET Core 2.1 and AWS | Amazon Web Services (Norm Johanson) - AWS, containers, .Net Core all together to make your code sits where ever you like. Pretty useful.
• Effective bundling with ASP.NET MVC (Gunnar Peipman) - Nice post about the bundling process in our asp.net MVC application.
• New Updates for Azure Development in Visual Studio (Visual Studio Team) - Great update to the tooling that makes our life easier... Or at least that reduce (a lot) the pain when starting and deploying a project.
• Some tricks I learned recording & publishing an educational video every day for 30 days - A geek with a hat (Swizec Teller) - I really liked that series and I learned tons of stuff while watching it about React of course but also about how to present technical tutorial and make them interesting to watch. • Know your Azure Subscription Quota and Usage (Wriju Ghosh) - Because waiting until it breaks is probably not the option you are looking for... It's a good idea to know your quotas first.

• A Beginner’s Guide to Testing Blockchain Applications (Kayleigh Oliver) - You have a project that could use blockchain and you are asking yourself what's next? This post is for you.

Making Time (Bob Clagett) - I really enjoyed reading that book. I've been watching Bob's YouTube Channel for a while. ANd was happy to ear about his new book. In Making Time, a little bit like in his videos, Bob explains how he build stuff... but this time instead of a furniture or a room, it's a new career/ business. A short book (88 pages) but a lot of fun.
